Throughout my career, I have learned frontend, backend, and mobile development. Different programming languages, and even things like content creation, copywriting, sales and so on.
For each new thing that I learn, I use the exact same framework and it always works PERFECTLY.
In this email, I'll share this framework with you, let's dive in!
I already learned X language, why should I learn more?
"In this field, if you're not constantly learning, you're falling behind." - Steve Jobs.
The Internet is a very rewarding place. Here you can make millions
.But a lot of people want to be rich, that's why the competition is high.
Your experience and knowledge can be your advantage, but if you'll stop learning and adapting new things in a few years a 17 y.o. kid with AI agents will outwork you.
I already see it happening in the IT industry, developers who aren't learning how to sell themselves and use AI - can't find a job, because other developers who learned how to use AI and sell themselves look more attractive to companies.
How to learn new technologies FAST?
Initially, you need to define a goal, why are you learning this technology/thing? Based on that the framework will differ (except the first 4 steps).
If you want to learn JavaScript, your goal can be building a calculator.
If you want to learn content creation, your goal can be getting 100 Instagram followers by posting reels.
No matter what you learn, you need to explain to yourself WHY are you doing this, otherwise, you'll just give up on it pretty quickly.
After defining the goal, time to put in the WORK:Set an exact deadline.
Without a deadline, there is no urgency, so you'll never find time to study.
Ex: You need to build a project for the interview in 10 days.
Define what you should be able to do/know till that deadline.
It'll help you to properly structure your learning process.
For example, when I was learning Croatian, I needed it to be able to talk with customers (when I was a barista).
When I was learning Angular.js, I needed it to complete the project on the job and rebuild wthe ebsite's UI in one month.
Ex: You need to be able to build a project with React after 10 days of studying it.
Structure your time based on that.
Ex. If you need to start creating a project in 10 days, make sure that you spend some time creating at least 1-2 mini versions of that project. It means that you should stop learning theory and start creating projects on day 5.
Start with technology's official documentation.
Usually, it has a ‘Quick Start’ section where they teach you best practices step by step.
Official docs are usually the best place to get your feet wet and get initial knowledge after it you'll be able to select the next step better.
Ex: Start with React official docs before jumping into tutorials.
The next steps will differ based on your goals.
For Yourself / Potential Career Growth / New Opportunities
If you study this technology for personal needs and don't have an extreme deadline, I would recommend the following path:After finishing the docs, get a projects-based course with this technology. Make sure that it’s not outdated and has good reviews. As you have time, you can consider a huge 0 to hero course.
Check Job Vacancies that require that technology. What other things are required with it together? Don’t rely on just one job vacancy. Check dozens of them and you’ll notice some patterns.
After finishing the 0 to hero course build 1-2 projects with that technology. Make them look professional and real-world worthy, so you can add them to your CV.
Check popular interview questions for that technology.
For Interview / Job Project
If you need to learn this technology for an interview or a job project, it usually means that you have just a couple of weeks, so you gotta be really careful with your time:After finishing the docs, get a project-based course with this technology. Make sure that it’s not outdated and has good reviews. As you are most likely quite tight on time, search for short (< 15 hours), project-based courses, where you focus on building projects.
Do research on what exact technologies, and approaches you will be using for that job project. Consider building mini-projects through YouTube tutorials with the usage of those technologies.
Start preparing for interview questions:Use the following GitHub
Watch Interview Recordings on YouTube
Read as many Google Articles on the topic “interview question your technology” as possible
Focus on understanding WHY, rather than just remembering answers.
Confidently land the project/interview and have fun. You’ve just spent quite a short period learning it, so don’t stress out. Nobody expects you to be a genius. Just do your best.
